Project goals (1-2 sentences) Ð AKMAP is adapting the US Environmental Protection
Agency Environmental Monitoring and Assessment
Program (EMAP) developed with the goal of using sample surveys to monitor the
condition of the NationÕs ecological resources to evaluate the cumulative
success of current policies and programs and to identify emerging problems
before they become widespread or irreversible. In the Arctic, these projects will undertake a
multidisciplinary research effort to quantify spatial and temporal changes in
AlaskaÕs Arctic Coastal Ecosystems and will provide a baseline for long-term
assessment of the status and trends of significant estuarine and coastal
