Project goals (1-2 sentences) – The goal of Canada’s Three Oceans is to observe North Pacific, Arctic, and North Atlantic waters, and establish a scientific basis for sustainable, long-term monitoring. Canada’s Three Oceans, led by Fisheries and Oceans Canada researchers, will take a snapshot of ocean conditions in 2007 and 2008 that will allow observers to gauge the consequences of global climate change, and to provide essential information to policy-makers and the Canadian Public.

Goal of ArcOD-related activity – Biodiversity: microbe and protist data collection

Geographic focus – The North Pacific, the North Atlantic, and the Arctic waters

Taxonomic focus – viruses, bacteria, plankton, benthic community, birds, and whales

Countries involved in activity – Canada, USA, Japan, China, Korea, Poland

Expedition dates and vessels – CCGS Louis St-Laurent and CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier, July 2007 and July 2008
