Portlandia arctica (Gray, 1824)
A very common benthic bivalve mollusk of arctic seas.
Size
- Length to 25 mm. Adults usually 15-18 mm.
Color
- Periostracum yellowish-gray to light brown, dull.
- Inside – white.
Habitat & Distribution
- Infaunal.
- On silty sediments.
- Sublitoral mainly.
- Widespread arctic species.
Feeding
- Deposit feeder.
Life cycle
- Dioecious.
- Development without pelagic larvae or with short pelagic stage (?).
