Overview
ArcOD is an umbrella under which independently-funded Arctic projects related to marine biodiversity join together to:
- Build a centralized database of species level distribution
- Work towards completing a species inventory of the Arctic
- Identify relations between species patterns and the environment
- Look for changes in species and communities over time.
ArcOD approaches these goals by:
- Providing infrastructure with a project office, a scientific steering group, and a network of collaborating researchers
- Identifying and accumulating available species data
- Fully analyzing samples that are already available
- Providing opportunities for taxonomic training
- Filling geographic, taxonomic and temporal gaps through new collections
- Synthesizing existing information
